01 · Campaign overview

Step through
the carnival gates.

This first arc introduces the Witchlight Carnival before the story widens into the Feywild and the larger campaign beyond.

Premise

The Carnival remembers what people lose.

Behind the games, lights, and impossible performances are old bargains, missing pieces, and doors that open somewhere stranger.

Tone

Whimsy with shadows at the edge.

Expect warmth, comedy, melancholy, eerie fairy-tale logic, and choices where kindness can matter as much as courage.

Play style

Curiosity opens more doors than force.

Combat exists, but many problems reward roleplay, negotiation, careful attention, and creative problem solving.

02 · Character creation

Build someone
the carnival calls.

Start with the general character creation guide, then layer on these Witchlight-specific prompts. The full prep checklist belongs after a seat is confirmed.

Bring a direction, not a completed destiny.

A strong first idea is enough: someone ordinary enough to begin at level 1, but personally connected enough to return to the Witchlight Carnival. You do not need a perfect backstory or final sheet before deciding whether this campaign fits.

  • Start with one desire, one pressure, and one unanswered question.
  • Give them a reason to care when the Carnival returns.
  • Leave space for party connections once the table forms.
03 · Table fit

Is this table
for you?

Good fit

You enjoy character-first fantasy.

Roleplay, mystery, emotional choices, strange bargains, and creative problem solving carry the campaign.

Good fit

You like wonder with shadows.

The tone is whimsical and heartfelt, but the fairy-tale edges can become melancholy, eerie, or dangerous.

Maybe less ideal

You only want tactical combat.

Combat exists, but many situations reward negotiation, curiosity, and lateral thinking over direct force.
